Loneliness is a mystery I don’t wanna solve Togetherness and our history is all that I want We're here for some much needed carryin’ on Raise glasses to glory and the rising sun Shine up some stories I missed ya It’s been too long Let love fill the room like the softest veil Take the edge off the wreck and the ruin Might be the usual suspects or just me and you Open the door and let love fill the room I can’t sidestep what’s coming the future’s not far Lately she asks what the day is five times an hour Spends half the day on her solitaire play Somehow she finally wins anyway The old deck I gave her had only 49 cards We let love fill the room like the softest veil Take the edge off the wreck and the ruin Give me your moments I’ll give you a tune Open the door and let love fill the room I wanna talk to the kings and their men crisis looms large Why are they behaving like they’re somehow in charge They’re meeting this week and we’re all gonna watch We might be forgiven stop taking so much From our own mama's generous, knowing beautiful arms Let love fill the room like the softest veil Take the edge off the wreck and the ruin Like a semaphore turning their eyes to the truth Open the door and let love fill the room Ooohhh Open the door she is here not a moment too soon

Groundrush 03:11
It’s a groundrush It’s a heart crush Don’t jump outta planes much But I hear it’s true You’re so high up got so much time You think you do Til the moment you don’t Comes crushin’ and rushin’ up at you Corealis I forgot to account for the curve Corealis You’re never too old to learn Got my calibrations Calculations done It’s a long shot But not my first or my last one This old world only spins one way Mathematics Might just save the day Corealis I forgot to account for the curve Corealis You’re never too old to learn I’m stepping out Fast on my feet Gotta stay just ahead Of what’s catching up with me May all the saints & angels above Steady up my breath inside my lungs Calm my shaking hands Lay your protection o’er my plans Corealis I forgot to account for the curve Corealis You’re never too old to learn It’s a groundrush It’s a heart crush Don’t like to complain much But I know it’s true

Ordinary magic Can turn around a tragic state of mind Ordinary magic Come lighten up these heavy times Oooh bow through flat water just like cutting glass Oooh Wake a sleeping cormorant as I pass Oooh Watch her muster up all her strength and might Oooh Wingtips kissing calm like two perfect stone skips in two perfect lines Ordinary magic Can turn around a tragic state of mind Ordinary magic Come lighten up these heavy times Oooh the wonder of your first few waking breaths Oooh feel the ebb and flow for a moment in your head Oooh know your heart was not the part that needed rest Oooh grace she lies in wait for all that might be next for all the hard, for all the mess Ordinary magic Can turn around a tragic state of mind Ordinary magic Come lighten up these heavy times Oooh wolf moon rising pulling gently on your spine Oooh selfsame power as the ruler of the tides Ooh draws her glowing ring round the circles of your life Six years running northstarlight fallin on your six year old eyes anodyne Ordinary magic Can turn around a tragic state of mind Ordinary magic Come lighten up these heavy times

I don’t have much left to teach you You’re already ahead by a century Oh how I love to watch you Move through these precious days so free Dip your cup into the river Ancient waters flowing changing all the time I know you can’t stay young forever But I’m so happy that you’re mine It’s ok to wear your heart upon your sleeve It’s ok to love anyone you please If that love’s not right it’s ok to leave Trust your compass to point you to where you need to be Don’t you take my mistakes with you Be sure to leave all that extra weight behind But take our music and your sense of justice too One day you’ll know how hard I tried Years from now when I call you Please pick up the phone take a bit of time I won’t talk too long or bore you The sound of your voice will ease my mind It’s ok to wear your heart upon your sleeve It’s ok to love anyone you please If that love’s not right it’s ok to leave Trust your compass to point you to what you need Your brother’s gonna be alright just you wait and see Don’t stay out all night and eat a lot of greens Live a long life don’t be too much like me Trust your compass to point to where you need to be It’s ok to wear your heart upon your sleeve It’s ok to love anyone you please If that love’s not right it’s ok to leave Trust your compass to point you to where you need to be

I caught your name In a conversation waiting for the train I didn't smile cause for a while it made me think of you again The cars rolled by just as I climbed on board I heard the old conductor cry Move on down to the end and I thought of you again one more time The train moved on and with my nose against the glass I hummed a song It made me smile and for a while I just forgot that you were gone But when I came to that line 'bout the one left behind I almost cried And as we rolled around the bend I thought of you again one more time And then I tried to go to sleep cause I thought that might keep All the sweet things you said from running through my head And pounding in my brain but I thought of you again He said hello, I thought I'd better wake you up to let you know You fell asleep and we've been through half of North Ontario I said I really didn't mind I'll get back another time before I die And as he turned the other way I thought of you again one more time And then I tried to go to sleep cause I thought that might keep All the sweet things you said from running through my head And pounding in my brain but I thought of you again

Marshy Hope 04:17
There were times under big Alberta skies I’d find ways find a day to take an early autumn drive Not for the majesty of the Sisters Three Pyramid Castle or the beauty of Louise But for a bend in the road in the valley of the mighty Peace That took me halfway home to Marshy Hope, Dunvegan you're tricking me Puttin' on a show with so much gold Oranges and all of the yellows in between But I need the red in the trees I’m the sanguine heart of my little family I need the sea poolin’ round my knees Maybe more maybe more than you need me There are times when the fog rolls in at night You miss the city life, city lights and the days moving easy You keep your promises and somehow keep mine On the disappearing edge of our country Got my hands on the ropes spring tide sou’wester rollin' in Gonna bang up the boat it’s no joke I’m ready for anything you’re halfway home and it’s a marshy hope That you can settle down and settle in But I need the red in the trees I’m the sanguine heart of my little family I need the sea poolin’ round my knees Maybe more maybe more than you need me

Wintertime alone with you But summer breezes blowing through my mind again The seasons will turn round and when they do Find a place where we can go I know we’ll be together when our days are through There’s just no telling what we two can do And if I had the chance I’d do it all again and dance And sing a happy tune and whistle at the moon The days are never long enough and when you wake me up I know that I can’t get enough of you Riding through the countryside or walking in the city lights And holding hands or drawing pictures in the sand with you Happiness is at my door the postman won’t stop anymore with bad news It’s like a childhood fantasy come true And if I had the chance I’d do it all again and dance And sing a happy tune and whistle at the moon The days are never long enough and when you wake me up I know that I can’t get enough of you

Deepest Well 03:41
Oh my heart is the deepest well That you can draw from your whole life through How deep it goes I’ll never tell But I won’t run out on you What is life but a candle flame Swayed by your breath and the choices you make What is love but everything Changing with the give and the take I have another he sings me songs Time passes easy and I sing along It’s not so good for me to be So used to you being so gone I do your laundry like I always do A slip of blue smelled like someone new Never brought it up there was no right time But it’s heavy on my mind tonight Now your things are burning in a raging pyre When love is dying you gotta light a fire If you come crying I’ll let you in Some things you lose some things you win Oh my heart is the deepest well That you can draw from your whole life through How deep it goes I’ll never tell But I won’t run out on you You can drop a stone all the way to hell No I won’t run out on you

If I were an angel I would fly to see ya If I were an angel I’d come by just to say hello If I were an angel I’d be sitting on your shoulder For to hold your hand when it’s time time time If I were an angel I’d check in on my grandma Have her remind me of the things she used to say To keep me on keep me on the straight and narrow Believin’ means she seen all my wasted days But I’m no good couldn’t get my wings if I tried I run from what I’m afraid of most every time Somehow that became alright Somewhere up the line If I were an angel I’d just know how to be true Pick out protect what matters and take better care of you I know it’s not about finding anything at all Make or break shape a self some job so far Cuz I’m no good couldn’t get my wings if I tried It’s all made up made up ‘cause we’re not made to fly A wish tossed up into the sky A million times lovely – still a lie

Out for a walk on the north side of town takin' in images dripping with sound To pour from my speakers like whiskey to grave a bottled up verse about souls to be saved My boots hit the sidewalk the sound hits my ears The streets fill my eyes up with crocodile tears So throw me a line ‘cause I’m drowning in craft as the world dips their toes in the shallows and laugh and laugh If the world’s an oyster and I’m a grain of sand Then the champagne of life is a studio band If becoming a pearl is the issue at hand then fill up my world with a studio band Out for a hike faraway from the city taking in soundscapes so quiet and pretty Figuring out how to reconcile flaws with a burning desire to win your applause Boots hit the rocks the sound hit my ears drawing blood from a stone is the music of spheres So flash me a sign ‘cause I’m drowning in glare as the world checks their screens from the shadows and stare and stare If the world’s an oyster and I’m a grain of sand Then the champagne of life is a studio band If becoming a pearl is the issue at hand then fill up my world with a studio band with a studio band

about

GROUNDRUSH is my 3rd full length studio album and a sister project to "Sitting Tight" (2021). This record is stepping out instead of sitting tight and pushes the boundaries of the contemporary roots genre in style and substance. A folk-rock marvel that dances nimbly around and up against time passin’ too quickly - facing urgency, awareness and ennui with undeterred optimism.
